How to Style and Decorate a Coffee Table with pictures and decorative trays

What do you put on your coffee table? Do you have trouble deciding what to put on it? In this post, you’ll learn how to style and decorate your coffee table with a tray, which has the added benefit of bringing a room together beautifully!

Whether you’re in the market for a new coffee table or have one that could use a little sprucing up, there are some design fundamentals to keep in mind. For many of us, purchasing a coffee table is something that is done as a last-minute addition to our living room or family room. Clearly, it is not something that should be overlooked! According to your seating arrangement, the size and height of a coffee table are usually determined. So let’s go over some fundamental guidelines to ensure that you don’t make the wrong decision.

In order to maximise your room’s potential, it’s best to purchase a coffee table after you’ve purchased a sofa. This is because, depending on the width of the couch, there is a best height and size. The length of your sofa should be approximately half to two-thirds of the length of your coffee table, with the height of the table approximately the same as the seat. It is critical to have the table at the proper height so that your guests can easily reach the surface of the table from their seats when they arrive. If you have a sectional sofa, measure the length of the horizontal seat rather than the length of the sofa.

SUGGESTIONS FOR BUYING A COFFEE TABLE

Look for a coffee table that is approximately two-thirds the length of your couch.

Height should be between 17 and 18 inches as a general rule of thumb.

When measuring, leave enough space between the table and the sofa for your legs (approximately 14′′ to 18′′ between the table and the sofa).

What are you going to do with your new coffee table now that you have it? Coffee tables were originally used as tea tables, and it intended them to drink tea! These days, coffee tables are frequently the focal point of a room arrangement, placed in the middle of the space between the sofa and occasional chairs. They are more commonly used for storing random household items as a catchall or for putting our feet up on when we are relaxing. However, they can be attractive and lovely, especially if a simple element such as a tray is included!

How to Style and Decorate a Coffee Table Tray in a Short Time

Decorative trays on coffee tables is not a new concept. Since then, I’ve gained quite a collection of coffee table trays, and I can count at least 15 of them off the top of my head! Maybe it’s bordering on obsession, but trays come in handy when serving and transporting items from one room to another. Providing you keep the top of your coffee table clear of the clutter that can accumulate, there will always be room for a tray.

The different types of coffee table Decorative Trays

Choose a tray in a neutral colour so that you can change it out seasonally.

Trays that are rectangular are the most common and easiest to find. On a rectangular tray, you can place longer objects, such as books, for convenience.

Round coffee table trays and serving trays are more difficult to come by. I know this because I’ve been looking for a large one for several months now!

Personal conversation pieces that tell a story about you are the best choice.

To add visual interest, vary the heights, colours, and textures of the elements.

Begin with the tallest object you have, such as a vase of flowers, garden clippings, or a plant, and work your way down.

Following that, include linear elements such as a book or a box. Those unsightly remote controls are excellent for concealment in boxes!

To add interest to your flat object, layer some architectural elements on top of it.

In contrast to even numbers of objects, odd numbers of objects appear organic and casual, whereas even numbers of objects can appear staged.

Décor for the season

This is a room that I do not show very often! On the wall of our family room is a vintage wood shop check-out table we got from a friend’s store. For a coffee table, I cut the legs down to size and painted it with milk paint in blue and white to give it a distressed look a few years ago. Love the rustic look when it’s combined with a modern leather sectional, an old floral oil painting in a barn-wood frame, and modern gold swing arm lights. The rug is an indoor/outdoor rug, and a family uses this room with three dogs and a couple. The wicker coffee table tray was decorated with a book, a simple water bottle with a cutting from our tropical garden, and a favourite candle, all of which were purchased from Amazon. The television remotes are housed in a piece of white pottery from the 1940s, and we display a conch shell that we found while diving in the Caribbean next to it.

Most likely, your tray will not take up the entire surface area of your coffee table, leaving space for other groupings to be placed on top. Apply similar layering principles and keep in mind that less is more when it comes to styling.
