Why Sports Fans Love Living in Boston.

Sometimes living in a particular city, you experience certain cultures you cannot avoid. In Boston, it’s safe to say you won’t be able to avert Boston fans. If you don’t enjoy sports, it may be best to keep quiet about it. However, if you do enjoy sports, then Boston can be an awesome hometown even if your favorites aren’t Boston teams.

Fenway is one of the Original Ballparks

Baseball is one of the oldest American sports and gained popularity back at the turn of the century. They first started as the Boston Americans and then changed to the Boston Red Sox in 1907. In 1912 then owner John I. Taylor purchased the land for the stadium and named it after the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood it was located in. The first game to be played after construction was on April 20, 1912.

Since the park has been around for such a long time, it has consequently seen a lot of construction and renovations over the decades. So even if you’re not at Fenway as a result of being a hardcore Red Sox fan, the stadium is worth seeing purely for its peculiarity. Some of the most iconic features of the park are The Green Monster, The Lone Red Seat, and The Triangle.

The Green Monster is the famous green wall along Fenway’s north side. A manual scoreboard is set in the wall that has been there since at least 1914. The Lone Red Seat is located in the right-field bleachers and marks the longest home run ever hit in Fenway by Ted Williams in 1946. It is simply what it sounds like, a single red seat among all green seats. These are just a handful of the quirks at Fenway.

The Celtics and the Bruins are Top-Tier Teams

In other sports, we have the Boston Celtics NBA team and the Boston Bruins NHL team. Both teams play at the TD Garden arena in Boston. The Celtics are one of the original 8 teams and were founded in 1946. They are one of the only 2 teams with 17 NBA Championships and they have the most recorded wins of any NBA team. Put simply, they are one of the best teams in basketball history.

There have been many prolific players in the NBA who have played for the Celtics. Some of the most famous are Bill Russell and Larry Bird. You can see much about the history of the team at the Sports Museum at the TD Garden. It features the teams of Boston including the Red Sox, Bruins, and the New England Patriots.

Additionally, if you’re looking at Boston houses for sale, maybe it is because you happen to be interested in living in a Patriot town. New England Patriot fans are just as serious as any of the other fans we’ve mentioned. Boston residents are unfairly known for being sarcastic and hardened. This isn’t true, although the winter months in New England are enough to make anyone bitter. But you may see a bit of the hardened characteristics when attending a sporting event. As we’ve stated above, they take all of their sports teams very seriously.

Location, Location, Location

Any sports fan, not only fans of Boston teams, would love to come to this historic city to catch a game. Sports history is just as important as the teams. When particular sports were forming professional teams they looked to the big cities to host. Since Boston was one of the original colonies in the settling of America, it makes sense that it would be considered when creating the original teams.

Baseball fans from all over the country visit Boston every year just to set foot in Fenway. Patriots fans cover 6 different states in the eastern part of our country. If you love the New England Patriots, you are sure to find friends in this area. And many sports enthusiasts will tell you that it’s not necessarily about a specific team, but about the players and the love of the sport.

So if you are interested in any of these types of professional sports, it’s safe to say you will enjoy living in Boston. The best part is that the stadiums are all located within a certain section of the city. When you go to visit one, you might as well visit them all!
